Barcelona will host the leading event 48H Open House BCN in October 2010. The initiative aims to encourage locals to appreciate the value of good architecture and urbanism, opening to the public over 150 great buildings of different styles, forms and sizes.

The 48H Open House Barcelona activities program is built around the broad and qualitative network of buildings that will open their doors to the public. The Barcelonians and those visiting the city during the weekend of 16?17 October have the choice from a total of 11 urban routes that allow them to access and learn about more than 150 architectural works. The number of routes has been established related
to buildings exhibited, setting with the ten Barcelona boroughs (Ciutat Vella, Eixample, Gràcia, Horta? Guinardó, Les Corts, Nou Barris, Sant Andreu, Sant Martí, Sants?Montjuïc and Sarrià?Sant Gervasi) and an eleventh item, which includes buildings near the city that also deserve a visit.

At many of the sites, you will have the possibility to engage in dialogue with the project authors’ architects, with
the buildings owners or indeed the planners of the visited area. An interesting opportunity to discover and understand the features of each place, and also sometimes supplemented by activities and conferences. Completely free and exclusively designed to enhance participation and promote reflections and dialogue between the participants.

Barcelona on 16 ? 17 October 2010 will become the first Mediterranean city to introduce what will be an annual event called: 48H Open House BCN.
